LIHUE — As the Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling entered its second week of competition, just 27 pins separated the first and second places on the boys lanes.
Despite the Waimea boys rolling a 775 second set pinfall over Kauai High School’s 660 pinfall, the Red Raiders surged to an 874 final set to Waimea’s 814 third set pinfall. Kauai High School finished with a 2,357 pinfall compared to Waimea’s 2,332 pinfall.
Kauai’s high game belonged to Trestyn Reis, who rolled a 224, the day’s second highest roll, in the third set. Kapaa High School’s William Kimura rolled the day’s highest score at 227 in his third set on the lanes.
On the girls lanes, Kauai High School picked up their second straight win with an 1,822 pinfall over the efforts of Waimea High School that rolled a 1,650 pinfall.
High point honors belonged to Waimea’s Tiana Abalos, who rolled a 159 in her second set, just a pin better than Kauai’s Cazzelle Luis, who rolled a 158 in her first set.
KIF Bowling reaches the midpoint of its six-week season on Thursday at Kauai Bowl in the Rice Shopping Center when the first rollers take the lanes starting at 4:20 p.m.
