LIHUE — The Waimea High School boys and girls air rifle teams, and the Kauai High School boys and girls air rifle teams, posted sweeps over their respective opponent teams on Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air rifle matches contested at the Kauai High School range.
“The Menehune boys team, led by Fredy Padamada with a score of 255, outshot the Warriors top 5 by a score of 1,179 to 1,121,” said Marcela Hornos, the air riflery scorekeeper for Kauai High School. “The Waimea girls team, led by Rochelle Uri with a score of 255, outshot the Warrior girls 1,175 to 977.”
In recent history, there has not been an instance when all four KIF member schools competed at the same venue.
In the match following the Waimea and Kapaa matchup, Kauai High School boys and girls teams outnumbered the Island School Voyagers.
Red Raider sharpshooter Caylee Garma fired off a day’s best 254 to lead the win on the girls side 1,203-1,034 over the Voyagers, who got high point honors from Saebrie Pegeder with 218 points, just two points better than Lyla Nakayama, who closed with 216 points,
Additionally, Pegeder had just hours earlier participated in the cross-country race.
On the boys range, Kauai outdistanced the Voyagers, 1,245-1,003. Kauai was paced by Jacob Andres, who finished with 260 points. High point honors for Island School went to Gabe Kelley, who posted a 244 final.
The next KIF air rifle matches will take place on Saturday when Kauai hosts Kapaa at its range on the Kauai High School campus. Island School will host Waimea High School teams at its open air range in Puhi.
