LIHUE — The collaborative efforts of artists Sally French and Samuel Schryver earned the non-cash Invitation Award from the Kauai Society of Artists Art Kauai 2024 that opened on Friday with an artists reception at the KSA gallery located at Kukui Grove Center.
Selected by the exhibit’s juror, Noe Tanigawa a former arts and culture reporter for Hawaii Public Radio, the award earns the artist’s use of “Exile,” the award-winning Collaborative Mixed Media event, to promote the 2025 Art Kauai.
Artists Sally French and Samuel Schryver formed the collaborative pair, who went on to earn the biggest financial prize of $2,000 from the Steve Lim Award, with their “Crying Emoji” mixed media artwork.
“Polihale Sunset Fishing” by Timothy Craddock was selected the recipient of $1,500 and the Ellen Tubman Memorial Award, which is sponsored by Ken Tubman.
Matt Hoyme’s “Outside Pets,” utilizing house paints and acylic, earned the $1,000 cash Art Patron Award, which is sponsored by Stuart Suna in memory of Bernice Suna.
“Summer Pho,” a Mixed Media on Canvas by Kristina Rollins, earned the $500 Robb Jones Memorial Award, which is sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Living, Kauai. Artist Wayne Zebzda’s “Cell Division” was the recipient of the $500 3D Award Excellence Award sponsored by SG Builders for his Welded Mill Steel piece.
“The Executor,” a High Fire Unglazed porcelain piece by Deyana Mielke, was the recipient of the $300 Edward M. Eaton Memorial Award sponsored by the Eaton family. “Hanapepe River,” an Oil on Panel by Ellen Wagner, was announced the recipient of the $250 Rena Selfe Memorial Award sponsored by Ned Selfe.
Stephen Lucas’ “Brevity” Acrylic on Canvas earned the $200 Margo Latif Memorial Award sponsored by the Latif family, and Carol Meckling’s “Spinner Dolphins” earned the $200 Innovation in Concept or Media Garden Island Arts Council Award.
Art Kauai 2024 is open for viewing and purchase daily through Oct. 25 at KSA gallery located adjacent to Small Fry and near the Keiki Korner play area sponsored by Spectrum. Viewing hours are from noon to 6 p.m. with special Friday hours from noon to 7 p.m.
