LIHUE — Alexa Takai of Honolulu fired a 1-under 71 on Sunday to win the Girls 15-18 Flight of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association 2024 Kauai Junior Championship that wrapped up on Sunday.
Takai, who fired a 3-under 69 on Saturday, the tournament’s opening day, finished as the only golfer to finish with an under par score. She carded a two-day 4-under par 140, five strokes ahead of Mariko Yonemura of Waipahu, Oahu who ended at a two-day 145.
Sydney Ito, the sole Kauai representative in the flight, finished seventh with a two-day 195.
Alexander Pequignot of Kilauea, Kauai was the sole Kauai golfer to top the leaderboard when he carded a two-day 196 to take the Boys 7-10 Flight over Tre Tydingco of Kapaa who ended with a 203.
Daniel Cho of Honolulu topped the Boys 11-12 Flight with a 155, a stroke ahead of Lihue’s Royal Ridings who ended at 156 despite shaving four strokes off his Saturday play on Sunday.
Other Kauai golfers in the flight include Kai Taylor of Lihue who finished fourth at 160, Roux Ridings of Lihue who ended fifth at 166, Ike Tydingco of Kapaa who ended eighth at 177, Kairo Enesa of Kapaa who finished ninth at 178, and Ayven Labuguen of Kapaa who ended 10th at 180.
Lakota Lee of Kihei, Maui topped the Boys 13-14 Flight after carding a 2-under 70 on Saturday. Lee finished with a 160, three strokes ahead of Caleb Ito of Lawai who ended with a two-day 163. Shane Murphy of Koloa finished the flight in seventh at 183. Adrian Smith of Kalaheo was in eighth place at 200, and Tobi Takemoto of Eleele finished with a 234.
Jordan Takai of Honolulu topped the Boys 15-18 Flight with a 145 despite firing a 2-under 70 on Sunday. Jordan finished four strokes better than Chance Wilson of Princeville who carded a 149. Graham Morgan of Kilauea finished the flight seventh at 160 followed by Jayvin Raquel of Anahola carding a 170 for eighth place.
Lucy Cui of Honolulu topped the Girls 11-12 Flight with a 156, just two strokes better than Madison Sur of Honolulu who finished at 158. Lauryn Lee of Kapaa ended in fourth at 164. Other Kauai golfers in the flight include Leilani Nitta of Kalaheo netting a 178 for seventh place, Emi Sayagusa of Kalaheo getting eighth at 211.
Kira Uno of Honolulu topped the four-golfer Girls 13-14 Flight with a 157.
A total of 51 junior golfers from across the state teed up for the 36-hole event that wrapped up on Sunday. This tournament awards points for the HSJGA/First Tee Hawaii Player of the Year, and the season race to the HSJGA/FTH Tour Championship on Maui that is by invitation only to top finishers on the HSJGA/FTH points list throughout the season.
