LIHUE — Kapaa High School bowler William Kimura rolled a trio of 200-plus games on Thursday to lead the Warrior boys bowling team to a 2571 pinfall for the win at the first game of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling season.

On the girls’ lanes, Kauai High School wahine rolled a 1767 pinfall to take the lead over Waimea High School girls who finished the day with a 1752 pinfall.
Aided by the high roll of 153 from Tiana Abalos in the first game, the Menehune wahine held a 1200-1102 lead over the Red Raider ladies following two games. Kauai went to Althea Ballesteros who rolled her day’s best 157, and Cazzelle Luis who topped her day with a 151 to surge to a 665 third game to finish with a 1767 pinfall, just 15 pins better than Waimea.
“If you haven’t been too a KIF bowling match before, I would suggest this is the year to come and watch,” said Kauai High School bowling coach Kyrin Sasaki. “Both boys and girls matches will be coming down to the final few frames. Girls, maybe not those big individual scores you’ll see, but team total will be a nail-biter for sure. Boys will always be exciting to see what the highest score will be for the night and this year, just like the girls’ side, it will also be a nail-biter until the end.”
The next KIF bowling match will roll on Sept. 19 starting at 4:20 p.m. at the Kauai Bowl.
