The free Ocean Clinic presented by Na Kama Kai on Saturday morning is not just for keiki, but for teachers — especially those in Grades 4 and 5 — to learn more about ocean-related activities including hookele, or wayfinding, kai palekana, or ocean safety, ku hoe, or stand-up paddling, and waa so the teachers can pass on these resources to their respective classes.
The free Ocean Clinic presented by Na Kama Kai on Saturday morning is not just for keiki, but for teachers — especially those in Grades 4 and 5 — to learn more about ocean-related activities including hookele, or wayfinding, kai palekana, or ocean safety, ku hoe, or stand-up paddling, and waa so the teachers can pass on these resources to their respective classes.
Keiki are also welcomed with registration starting from 9:30 a.m. at Kalapaki Beach.
The Duke’s restaurant will also be hosting its beach volleyball tournament on Saturday, and the first games of the Kauai Youth Football will be happening at Vidinha Stadium.
Kudos, Shannon Hiramoto, the Hawaii Craftsmen Kauai coordinator, for juggling the busy Friday schedule of accepting Kauai entries to the Hawaii Craftsmen exhibit, and balancing the opening day of the Kauai Society of Artists Art Kauai 2024 (Caylin Spear said there were a lot of entries to that exhibit). Artist Kimberlin Blackburn was busy escorting the Hawaii Craftsman Juror Suzanne Isken to lunch and the Kauai Museum before Isken had to jury the Kauai entries, present her talk to the artists, and take in the Art Kauai opening.
Larry Feinstein, described by the Kauai Office of Economic Development as “a writer and island resident with the goal of giving back to Kauai while learning,” is thrilled to learn the OED launched its Kui Kaua‘i newsletter.
“Through each issue, we hope to kui, or string together, the people and work being done in our community to build pilina for a stronger, more resilient island,” the OED said. “Similar to the way one sews a lei, we will bring many parts together — piece by piece — with one thread connecting us all.”
