LIHUE — Just 15 points separated the Kapa‘a High School girls and the Island School girls sharpshooters when the Voyagers hosted the first Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air rifle matches on Saturday.
Led by the high pointing of Kapaa sharpshooter Christy Heath, who piled up 227 points in all three shooting positions, the Warrior wahine finished with 1,032 points over Island School’s 1,017 points.
On the boys mats, Island School sharpshooter Gabriel Kelley outpointed Kapaa’s Kelii Silva 237 to 223. However, with all of the scoring Kapaa marksmen netting 200-plus scores compared to just two for the Voyagers, Kapaa took the boys competition 1,084 to 905 points.
No scores were available at press time for the air rifle matches where Kauai went to visit Waimea.
This week Saturday’s air rifle matches start at 10 a.m. Waimea High School will visit Kapaa High School and Island School will visit Kauai High School.
