NUKOLII BEACH — Four Hanamaulu residents were rescued after drifting away from the coast on Sunday.
An emergency 911 call was received shortly after 6:20 p.m. on Sunday about four people in distress in the water off Nukolii Beach.
Kauai Fire Department personnel with the Lihue and Kapaa fire stations, as well as Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 and the Kauai Police Department responded to the scene.
Rescue crews arrived on scene before 6:30 p.m. and discovered two adults and two children drifting and holding hands approximately 100 yards offshore.
Fire personnel immediately entered the water and used rescue surfboards to make contact and rescue all four swimmers. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 received the all-clear sign from rescuers prior to the swimmers being brought back to shore.
American Medical Response personnel provided an assessment and reported all four swimmers had no injures and were later released. Officials cleared the scene shortly before 7 p.m.
