Boy, it’s hot out there … has the thermometer reached 100-plus degrees like it did last Saturday?

Hats off to Kauai Police Department Sgt. Morris Unutoa, Special Resource Officers John Anderson, Kaulana Renayud and Tyler Uratsuka for roughing it in that hot sun atop the Walmart store roof on Thursday morning as a fundraiser for Special Olympics Kauai. The officers will be on the roof until at least 1 or 2 p.m. Saturday. There is still time to stop by and support the Special Olympics Kauai Badges and Buckets campaign by shopping for the special shirts, coolers and hats.
Meanwhile, the Badges and Buckets fundraiser got a lot of help from the HSTA retired teachers like Janice Bond, who didn’t leave when her shift ended, and the Kaua‘i High School Key Club advisor Diane Inouye said it was difficult to get volunteers because of the busy after-school scheduling and Special Olympic athletes who were real troopers in all that afternoon sun.
East Kauai Lion Paul Endo went to the King Kaumualii Elementary School on the wrong day and ended up supporting the Badges and Buckets … the event shirts and caps look pretty sharp for this year.
The gate to the jetty area parking at Nawiliwili Harbor is open and the Nawiliwili Yacht Club started its weekly shoreline series races, again … .there’re just a few weeks remaining before the NYC racing calendar ends with the annual Halloween race. Sailing resumes in February 2025.
Following a full day of high school sports on Saturday, Paul Pancho and the Kauai Pop Warner Football League opens its 2024 season of Pop Warner Football on Sunday with the annual Jamboree starting at 9:30 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
