WAIMEA — As part of the Hilton Grand Vacations HGV Serves program, a volunteer team from The Point at Poipu spent Wednesday working alongside homebuyers and Kauai Habitat for Humanity staff at the Huakai project in Waimea.
The Point at Poipu team worked on a home for first-time homebuyer Rebecca Cameron.
“Born and raised on Kauai, I never really had a stable household,” said Cameron in a Kauai Habitat press release. “I was always living on different sides of the island. It is hard to say I’m from a specific town because I always had to live in different places.”
Kauai Habitat said as a female head of household, it became Cameron’s goal to purchase her own home to not only provide her and her daughter the safety and security that owning a home provides, but to secure a foundation for her daughter’s future.
The Hilton Grand Vacation volunteers listened to the words of gratitude from Cameron while getting briefed on the safety protocols and instructions before being adjourned to tend to the day’s tasks.
During their workday, the volunteers were involved in cutting, painting and installing baseboards at the home located in the Kauai Habitat for Humanity’s Waimea Huakai subdivision, which is located across Waimea Canyon Park.
Once completed, the Waimea Huakai subdivision will provide 32 single-family homes to the westside community.
The Hilton Grand Vacations, in 2021, announced a national partnership with Habitat for Humanity International as part of its corporate social responsibility program, HGV Serves.
A $5,000 donation was presented to the Kauai Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, in support of The Point at Poipu employees volunteerism for new home builds and home repair projects to local communities across the country.
