LIHU‘E — County of Kaua‘i officials honored the heroic efforts of two police officers in an award ceremony on Friday, Aug. 23.
Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD), Officer Maria Himongala along with Officer Roldan Agbayani were both recognized as employees of the month by the Kaua‘i Police Commission during its August 2024 meeting.
Officials reported that on July 9, both Agbayani and Himongala responded to an emergency 911 call for a 30-year-old male who had allegedly suffered a stab wound in an area known as “Pillars” in Anahola Beach.
Once on the scene, the officers discovered the individual with a substantial amount of blood loss and in immediate need of lifesaving assistance.
Both officers quickly jumped into action and immediately performed lifesaving techniques that successfully stabilized the victim, while they waited for the arrival of medical personnel.
Their training combined with their quick efforts were instrumental actions that lead to saving the man’s life
“Officer Roldan Agbayani and Officer Maria Himongala have demonstrated extraordinary skill and bravery in a critical situation,” said KPD Assistant Chief Mark Ozaki.
“Their swift and decisive actions were crucial in saving a life, and their professionalism reflects the very best of our department. We are incredibly proud to recognize their exceptional service and dedication to the people of Kaua’i.”
The police commission presented the officers with a lei along with a certificate, and recognized their training and heroic service as a statement to the unwavering dedication and standard the department holds to its community.
