LIHUE — The annual Terno Ball is the signature scholarship fundraiser for the Kaua‘i Filipino Women’s Club (KFWC).
This year marks the 58th Terno Ball for which tickets to the night of elegant excitement are available at Vicky’s Fabrics in Kapaa, Mama Lucy’s in Puhi, Zen Creations in Lihue or from any of the KFWC members, said KFWC President Barbara Green.
“Back by popular demand are out VIP tables. Champagne tables (cost $2,000 seats eight guests and includes 2 bottles of champagne and commemorative gift for eight, sponsor recognition in the evening program and priority seating),” Green said.
“Wine tables (cost $1,500 seats eight guests, sponsor recognition in the evening program, and includes two bottles of wine). These VIP tables can be purchased through the KFWC members. We wish you the warm feeling of fulfillment that comes from helping our young scholars’ dreams come true.”
General admission tickets are $150 and can be purchased presale through any of the KFWC members or through the ticket outlets.
“Since 1954, it has been our organization’s mission to help young men and women of Filipino ancestry achieve their educational goals,” Green said. “The Terno Ball is a spectacular evening of entertainment, fellowship and culture in the setting of the Royal Sonesta Kauao Resort ballroom on Sept. 21. As a contestant or spectator, witness the pageantry of the terno, barong, and couples contests that have been the highlight of this event for the past 57 years,” Green said.
Contest prejudging starts at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The terno is considered the formal gown of Filipino women and the barong is considered the formal wear for Filipino men.
“Guests are not required to wear terno or barong,” Green said. “Your finest evening attire is appropriate. However, if you would like to enter the contests — Most Beautiful Terno, Finest Barong, or Most Elegant Couple — then, terno (must have the signature butterfly sleeves) and barong required.”
Green said that if a contestant has earned the grand prize in any of the three contests within the past two years, they are not eligible to enter the contest.
“We have a fabulous evening planned with some exciting surprise entertainment,” Green said.
