Keith had company as he ran with Kapaa High School Athletic Trainer Chris Ang, who was on duty Saturday night during the preseason football game against Kapolei High School. Chris smoked the half marathon in 2:12:56.

Congratulations to Mathea Allansmith, who got another Guiness record — Oldest Female, 94 years old, to complete a half marathon! Mathea stopped the clocks at 5:35:42 on her home course.
Kudos to Kori Simmons of Alexandria, Virginia, who got help from her sister Kenjie Nwosu and niece Nnewnna, of California, in completing her 50-state marathon tour that started back in 2015.
“It was hot,” Kori said. “But God let a lot of breezes come through.”
Rachel Secretario still had that bumble bee headdress when she was joined by her sister Shelly for this year’s run.
Great job, Jeff Sacchini (he even got to talk with Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami), Robin Jumper and all those volunteers on a great 15th marathon that saw more than 2,500 runners navigate the half and full marathon route that ended at the Koloa Landing Resort (who was going to the drag races after the marathon?).
Runners came from 49 states and 18 countries with more than a thousand Hawaii residents participating, and more than 670 from Kauai. This is what Jeff described as “community support.”
The Kauai Marathon also marks the start of serious Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation sporting events, as girls volleyball started on Tuesday night, Island School hosts a preseason cross-country race on Saturday and air riflery starts on Saturday. The football game at Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday is the first of the KIF regular season.
