LIHUE — Hotels on the island of Kauai put up some solid numbers in the first full month of summer, as hotel occupancy came in at nearly 80 percent while the average cost for a room was nearly unchanged.
The average daily rate slipped to $453 in July, according to the Hawaii Hotel Performance Report published monthly by the Hawaii Tourism Authority. That total was off 0.3 percent from July 2023, but up a robust 50.5 percent from pre-pandemic July 2019.
Total occupancy weighed in at 79 percent, which was up 5.5 percent from July 2023 and 2.3 percent from July 2019.
Hotels on Maui continued to be impacted by the deadly Aug. 8, 2023, wildfires as the average daily rate dropped to $573 in July. That was down 12.4 percent from July 2023, but up 32.4 percent from July 2019.
Total occupancy was 60.5 percent in July, down 6.3 percent from July 2023 and 22.3 percent from July 2019.
Hotels on Hawaii Island generated an average daily rate of $436 in July. That was off 0.3 percent from July 2023, but up a hefty 64.4 percent from July 2019.
Total occupancy was 67.6 percent in July, down 0.8 percent from July 2023 and 15.8 percent from July 2019.
Hotels on Oahu were a bargain by comparison with an average daily rate of $310 in July, which was up 1.4 percent from July 2023 and 18.7 percent from July 2019.
Total occupancy came in at 88.3 percent in July, up 3.8 percent from July 2023 and 0.3 percent from July 2019.
The survey included 171 properties, which represented 48,181 rooms, or 86.2 percent of all lodging properties with 20 rooms or more in the Hawaiian Island chain.
The July survey included 22 properties on Kauai, 43 properties on Maui, 23 properties on Hawaii Island and 83 properties on Oahu.
