Rachel Griffith, 30, was reported missing on Friday. Kauai Police Department (KPD) personnel were able to locate her unoccupied vehicle at the Awaawapuhi trailhead in Kokee.
That sparked a coordinated search effort involving several agencies, including the KPD, Kauai Fire Department, Kauai Search and Rescue, as well as the Division of Convseration and Resources Enforcement.
Griffith, who hails from Oregon, was located on Kokee Road at approximately noon on Friday, the KPD said. She had apparently become disoriented while hiking the Awaawapuhi Trail the previous evenning.
“We are thankful that Ms. Griffith is safe and unharmed. Our sincere gratitude goes to the community and our partnering agencies for their diligent efforts in the search. Public cooperation is essential in these situations, and we deeply value the support we have received,” said KPD Assistant Chief Kalani Ke.
