Arnold Wai Fong Leong
Arnold Wai Fong Leong, of West Kaua‘i, passed away peacefully in his Hanapepe home on June 22, 2024, at 78 years old.
He is survived by his loving sons Corbin (Claudia), Quintin (Leimomi), his 6 grandchildren Lillianna, Corbin Jr., Lena, Palila, ‘Aukai, and new baby, his great-grandchild, Lanakila and his faithful dog, Mahea.
His ‘ohana will be celebrating his life on Oct. 5, at St. John Episcopal Church in ‘Ele‘ele. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., service from 10 to 11 a.m.
Charles Joseph Carveiro
Charles Joseph Carveiro, of Makaweli, Kauai, passed away on Aug. 20, 2024, at his residence at the age of 83. He was born on Nov. 18, 1940. He was an irrigation supervisor.
He was preceded in death by parents William and Isabella Carveiro, brother Edward Carveiro, sons Charles Jr., Wayne Carveiro and son-in-law Bill Dahle.
He is survived by wife Claire Carveiro of Lawai, daughter Carolyn Carveiro of Kauai, daughters-in-law Sheri Carveiro of Kauai, Grace Kaulili of Kauai, grandchildren Chase (Alyssa) Carveiro, Kelli (Cam) Anthony, Cory (Kawehi) Carveiro, Kasey Carveiro, great-grandchildren Code, Sage, Charlie, Bea Carveiro, Alaina, Ridge Anthony, sisters Janet Carveiro of Washington, Isabelle Tavares of Kauai, Mary Ann Vander Veen of Washington, sister-in-law Yvonne Carveiro of Kauai, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 4 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Marvin Bargayo
Marvin Bargayo, of Lihue, passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Waimea, Kauai. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a prep cook for a supporting food service.
He was preceded in death by parents Vicente and Gregoria Bargayo, mother Connie (George) Makaneole, brothers Caesar (Julie) Bargayo, Jesus (Sally) Bargayo, sister Fedelina (Patricio) Gongob and sister-in-law Carmen Bargayo.
He is survived by brothers Anito Bargayo, Tony (Lucy) Bargayo, Glen (Laurie) Makaneole, George (Lorri) Makaneole, sisters Cora Balocan, Gail (Cleve) Shigematsu, Gerlinda DeCosta, Naomi (Dennis) Cortez, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. Visitation and service starts at 11 a.m. with Military Honors.

Fergus (Fergie) Stanley Macomber
Fergus (Fergie) Stanley Macomber, of Kalaheo, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Aug. 15, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born on Aug. 10, 1942, in San Diego, California, and spent his adult life on Kauai as a general contractor, ocean lover, lifelong surfer and motorcycle enthusiast. He was a 2nd degree black belt in Kajukenbo. Ferg was a good, kind friend, generous, gentle and loved by so many.
He is survived by his loving partner Lynn Black, sons Orion Macomber (Talia Smith), Peter (Andra) Macomber, daughter Jennifer Macomber, grandchildren William, Francesca, brother Philip (Robin) Macomber, sisters Janet (John) Peterson, Cyndi Potts, nephews Chad, Corey, Sean, Travis, niece Melissa, ex-wife Heidi Smyser, extended family Kim Black (Robby Keown), Kristen (Ian) Jung, Mailah, Levi and Canon, along with so many close friends.
“Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting “holy smokes…what a ride!”
Ferg worked and played well and hard and did just that.
A paddle out to honor our dear friend will be Sept. 14, at PK’s, Lawai Beach Road, starting at 10 a.m.
Sarah Ulunani ‘Ulu’ Hoomanawanui
Sarah Ulunani “Ulu” Hoomanawanui, of Anahola, passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born in Wainiha, Kauai, on Aug. 5, 1937, and was an entertainer for Keanuenue Serenaders
She was preceded in passing by her loving husband Norman Hoomanawanui Sr., father Edward Keoua Puulei of Wainiha, mother Nancy Malia Hanohano Piilani of Wainiha, stepfather Peter K. Piilani Sr. of Wainiha, sons Richard Puulei, Hiram Kelii, sister Charlotte Hoomanawanui, brothers Edward Jr., William, and Henry.
Ulu is survived by her daughters Gwendolyn Iwalani (Tita) Hoomanawanui, MonaLisa Maile (Randy) Boyer, Melveen Leilani Hoomanawanui, Norma Jean Kawehilani Hoomanawanui, Belinda Chandler, Sara Asaoka, sons Norman Jr. (Davilyn), Leroy Kanaloa (Jordan) Hoomanawanui, Paul Poomaihealani, brother Ivan Kaipoleimanu Piilani, sister Jane Kinzie, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren with one in the oven, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Waipa Foundation in Hanalei with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Family requests aloha attire. Leis are welcomed.

Louis Steven Niau
Louis Steven Niau, of Kalaheo, passed away on Aug. 11, 2024, in Lihu‘e, at the age of 80. He was born on Jan. 23, 1944, in Hanapepe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Air National Guard.
He was preceded in death by son Lloyd Steven Niau, parents Louis and Lei Niau, brother David Niau and sister Wilma Mack.
He is survived by wife Patricia Ann Niau, son Floyd Steven Quon Po Niau (Eva) of Mililani, O‘ahu, daughters Celine Piilani Yau Chay Nelsen (Jeff Wong) of Kalihi, O‘ahu, Stevette Kuulei Kam Lin Santiago (Brad) of Kaneohe, O‘ahu, Lorilee Lilinoe Almarza (Donald) of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Louis Kamuela Niau, Amare Owsley, Braeden Keanu Santiago, Logan Ernest Kainoa Santiago (Yana Nel Sheryn), Nicholas Brad Kamahao Santiago, Devin Almarza, great-grandchild Louella Rayn Kuuleialohamaikalani Santiago, brother Michael Niau of Lawa‘i, sisters Momi Livingston of Waimea, Pearl Kelii of Nu‘uanu, O‘ahu, Gail Masuda of Makaweli, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
