Swimming program
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the Kauai County swimming program. And especially recognize lifeguards Andrew Barran and Graham Kovarik, helpers Ken Miyashiro, Joanne Davila, Judith Toy and junior helpers Riley Rogers and Anela Parbo for all their efforts in teaching and supporting our keiki as they learn how to swim.
My 5-year-old granddaughter started off clinging to the shallow side in fear and is now jumping off the 10-foot deep area and swimming confidently (I also note that this is occurring with other children in the class, too!)
What a breakthrough and such a gift given by this tireless crew being led by our own Kapaa lifeguard Andrew Barran — all for free!

Da aina
Come on people of Kauai. You can do better. Don’t you care about da aina? If so, then why is there so much opala everywhere?
I know our ohana and kapuna taught us not to litter to respect aina. So please do. It’s so easy, just put your opala in a bag and throw it away.
P.S. Recycle too.
P.S.S. On the way to the dump, please secure you load so it doesn’t fall out on the side of the road. Easy yea.

Kaua’i needs more swimming opportunities for our children … the classes all fill up so fast.
