KOLOA — There is the month of September remaining for anyone interested in viewing the artist Patrice Pendarvis work at the Dark Horse Roasters gallery area in Koloa.
Located in the historic Koloa Hongwanji Young Buddhists of America hall, across from the Koloa Big Save store, Pendarvis was busy working the finer details of her current work titled “Kauai Bliss,” or in Tahitian, “Manuia.”
Her current appearance that started mid-August, has an invitation for guests to sign her guest book to be eligible for a free drawing or painting that will be given away at the end of the exhibit.
“You are lucky,” said Edie Ignacio Neumiller of the Zonta Club of Kauai, who was enjoying a Dark Horse creation with Laurie Ho, the newly reelected president of the Kauai County Farm Bureau. “Patrice is leaving soon, and won’t be here for a couple of weeks.”
Pendarvis said she has a couple of girls who will be gallery sitting while she’s touring the home of artist Georgia O’Keeffe and hiking places like Monument Valley and places in Colorado for a different view of landscapes.
“It’s not the same as being here in person,” Pendarvis said. “I won’t be here when the Kauai Marathon is running. I don’t get to see customers face-to-face. I’ll be flying. I’ve had many customers say how they miss not seeing me painting outside the gallery at The Shops at Kukuiula during the farmers market.”
Neumiller said in the creation of “Kauai Bliss,” artist Patrice uses various medium ranging from acrylic and watercolor rice paper to water-based oil and kiln-fired China point.
“This is like using color crayons,” Pendarvis said, applying dark tones of oil to the bottom and sides of her work in progress piece. “I also do the wrap around canvas so this is ready to hang.”
A member of the Hawaii Watercolor Society, Kauai Made Products, Kauai Society of Artists and the Kauai Plein Air Artists Association, Pendarvis is scheduled to be back in person from Sept. 16 through the end of September.
