LIHUE — Laurie Ho will continue as the president of the Kauai County Farm Bureau and all incumbent candidates were reelected to their respective positions during the Kauai County Farm Bureau annual General Membership meeting at the Kaua‘i Philippines Cultural Center on Sunday.
Ho’s cabinet of officers include Jerry Ornellas filling the vice president’s seat, Eric Hansen as secretary and Gary Ueunten taking the oath as treasurer. The directors are Waylon Brun, Sandi Kato-Klutke, Tai-Li Medeiros, James Robinson, Bill Spitz and Randy Uyehara.
In addition to the election of the new KCFB leadership, business matters, and special guest presentations like the one from Congresswoman Jill Tokuda, the meeting presented the six scholarship recipients who had already left for school.
Rayven Orsatelli, coming off participating in the Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association rodeo on Aug. 18, was the sole scholarship recipient to show at the meeting where a special dessert and side dish contest lightened the mood.
Orsatelli and Zariah Bukoski were recipients of the Farm Family Scholarships. Austin Camara was named the recipient of the Agricultural Scholarship-High school graduate. Kilinoe Oliveira, Leolani Fernandez and Alexis Camara were named recipients of the Agricultural Scholarship-Undergraduates.
Joyce Takahashi was named winner of the Dessert contest that was judged by a panel of judges that included special guest Tokuda. Takahashi, a previous award winner for her Miki Mac Honey, used the Miki Mac Honey along with macadamia nuts from their family farm to create her MacNut Honey Tart.
Kato-Klutke was a dual winner in the Side Dish competition when her Cucumber Namasu and Cucumber Kim Chee received tying numbers before being whisked off to become part of the lunch buffet.
The Kauai County Farm Bureau, affiliated with the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation and the American Farm Bureau, is a grassroots member-based nonprofit organization of farming families and friends of farmers united for the purpose of analyzing problems and formulating action to ensure the future of agriculture, promoting the well being of farming and enhancing the local economy.
The Kauai County Farm Bureau, in collaboration with the Kukui Grove Center and The Shops at Kukuiula, offers the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove on Mondays from 3 p.m. and the Kauai Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m.
