Kudos to Mark Periello and his Kauai Chamber of Commerce ohana for hosting the annual Governor’s Luncheon at the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort on Tuesday. Kudos and mahalo to Chef Mark Sassone for the sumptuous luncheon (did anyone have trouble finding the katsu sauce for the chicken?) that came on the heels of his television cooking demonstration with Char Siu tofu.

The television demonstration also served to introduce Chris San Nicholas as the new manager for the Nukoli‘i property. Chris has 23 years experience with Outrigger, said Robert Ancheta, who was recently promoted to Director of Housekeeping.
Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association President Mufi Hannemann teamed up with Kauai County Council member and former mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. in rendering the doxology that followed the oli performed by Kumu Hula Leinaala Pavao Jardin and Breeze Pavao.
OK, it’s the start of a long weekend where The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon will be lighting up the South Shore starting on Friday with the Wilcox Health Sports and Fitness Expo, where the marathon participants can stop by to pick up their registration packets that include race bibs (essential for proper timing of the long run). Non-race participants (is the event sold out, yet?) of the 15th annual big event can drop in to see the latest and greatest of sports and fitness material, as well as pick up Kauai Marathon logowear.
Saturday is the annual Keiki Fun Run (is that event sold out, too?) at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, and during the night (endangered seabird fledging season starts on Sept. 15), Kapaa High School football will be hosting Kapolei at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex starting at 6:30 p.m.
And Sunday, The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon launches from the entrance of the Poipu Shopping Village (how is that new bakery?) from 6 a.m. Watch for road closures and modifications that are posted on the Kauai Marathon website.
