ANAHOLA — Fire crews with the county and state successfully extinguished the brush fire on Kauai’s eastside on Friday, Aug. 23.
Firefighters battled a brush fire that sparked on Thursday and continued to burn on Friday on the mauka side of Kuhio Highway in Anahola.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Kauai Fire Department (KFD) responded to an 911 emergency call for a brush fire in Anahola.
First responders with the Kaiakea and Kapaa fire stations, along with Rescue 3, Tender 1, Air 1 and 2, the on-duty battalion chief, Department of Pubic Works personnel and the private landowners all responded to the brush fire.
At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, the fire was only 20 percent contained and an estimated at 10 to 15 acres.
On Friday, at around 9:50 a.m., the county reported that the fire still continued to burn. Overnight N5 sensors were installed in the area to monitor any further ignition.
Crews remained on standby, and with support from residents and the community firefighters, made their way to the fire through a gate on Hokualele Road. KFD continued to take command of the fire until it was successfully extinguished shortly before 2:55 a.m.
Fire crews returned to the scene the following morning to monitor hot spots and cleared the area at around 11 a.m. on Friday.
No injuries were reported with the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire did destroy a storage container, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage.
