Barry ‘Barr’ Surles
On July 24, 2024 Barry “Barr” Surles, 75, of Princeville, lost his battle with cancer. He was born in Ocean Beach, California, on Sept. 20, 1948. He would like to thank all his family and friends in the surf, baseball and fishing community that have always been so good to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernice and Tom Surles, brothers Robert Surles and Sam Surles.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Annette Surles, nieces Michelle Cunningham, Denise Surles, nephews David Surles and Zephyr Brown.
The family would like to extend a big thank you to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Kaua‘i Hospice.
A paddle out and celebration of life will be held on Aug. 30, 2024, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Hanalei Pier.

Kent Kenichi Tomimoto
Kent Kenichi Tomimoto, 61, of Lawa‘i, passed away at home on May 26, 2024. He was born on Sept. 11, 1962, in Honolulu. He was a Central Services Branch Manager, State of Hawai‘i, Department of Accounting and General Services.
He was preceded in death by father Thomas Tomio Tomimoto, paternal grandfather Yoshio Tomimoto, paternal grandmother Chikayo Tomimoto, maternal grandfather Izumi Yamamoto and maternal grandmother Yukiye Yamamoto.
He is survived by wife Sallie Ann Ballaibe Tomimoto, son Ky K. Tomimoto of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter Kelsey M. Tomimoto of Cambridge, Massachusetts, mother Nancy M. Yamamoto Tomimoto, brother Ty K. (Sandra Hatae) Tomimoto of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, uncle and aunty Wallace and Karen Yamamoto, cousin Lynne Yamamoto (David) Leung, mother-in-law Salome Ortal Ballaibe, sister-in-law Rose Ballaibe (Malcom) Doi, brother-in-law Rudolph Ballaibe, numerous nieces, and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at West Kaua‘i Hongwangji Mission, Waimea Hongwanji Mission located at 4675 Menehune Road, Waimea, Hawai‘i 96796. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. followed by funeral service at 9 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Kaleo Ho‘okano
Kaleo Ho‘okano, of Waimea, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Waimea at the age of 74. He was born on Sept. 21, 1949, in Waimea. He was an ocean safety supervisor and a legendary waterman.
He was preceded in death by wife Rae Ho‘okano and parents James and Aloha Ho‘okano.
He is survived by son Gad (Chantel) Ho‘okano of Hanapepe, daughters Sanoe (Dennis) Ho‘okano of Oma‘o, Sui (Matt) Ho‘okano of Waimea, grandchildren Lokela Palama, Kekai Palama, Liv Jacintho, Lehiwa Palama, Nalu Ho‘okano, Nawea Ho‘okano, brother Dean (Debbie) Ho‘okano of Kekaha, sisters Pauline Kupo of Kekaha, Odetta (Joe) Borja of Kekaha, Pi‘ilani Aguon of Kekaha, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service will be held at the Lawai Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church on Aug. 16, 2024. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by service at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

James Ray Alfiler
James Ray Alfiler, 80, of Kapa‘a, passed away on July 17, 2024, at home. He was born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on June 18, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army before working as a Parts Manager at PS&D.
He was preceded in passing by brother John Alfiler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Cummings Alfiler, daughter Christine (Eric) Eichholz, son Jason (Libby) Alfiler, hanai daughter Linda Alfiler, brothers Andy (Mary) Alfiler, Gerald (Holly) Alfiler, Chester Alfiler, grandchildren Kanani Eichholz, Kanoe Eichholz, Keala Eichholz, Daniel Alfiler, Jayden Alfiler, and William Alfiler.

Alroy L. N. Enos
Alroy Lyal Nalei Enos, 81, of Anahola, Kaua‘i, passed away on Aug. 4, 2024, at the Hilo Benioff Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit. His final moments of life were shared intimately amidst his family. Our father was born on Feb. 4, 1943, to Edward and Ivy Enos of Papakölea, O‘ahu. He was one of twelve children.
Our father was passionate about athletics, excelling on the basketball court and football field throughout his lifetime. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High’s Class of ‘61. Shortly thereafter, and as a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Alroy served a proselyting mission in the islands of Samoa at 19 years of age. Upon his return, Alroy earned a degree in Education at the Church College of Hawai‘i in Lä‘ie, O‘ahu. He enlisted in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War and worked at Schofield.
Concurrently, Alroy and Lorna Lehua (Awai) Enos began their lives married in 1970. His career included decades of teaching school and coaching the sports that he revered the most. Alroy retired from the Department of Education, then spent time with his family.
Our parents, married 53 years, reared his surviving family members Shane (Tiana) Enos, Henani (Maile) Enos, Kanoelehua Enos, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers and sisters.
He was predeceased by sister Lenora (Enos) Kalani and brothers Edward and Leslie Wayne Enos.
Our father lived a Christ-centered life as the Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i Stake Patriarch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served righteously until his death.
Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., Service is at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lihu‘e Stake Center, 4580 Ehiku St., Lihu‘e. Dedication of Grave and Burial at 1 p.m. at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, 4331 Lele Rd, Hanapepe.
