Congratulations to Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Manager Michael Murphy and his red-shirted ‘ohana (they were also one of the big sponsors of the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build on Friday!) for working together with Rev. Tomo Hojo and Rev. Kohtoku Hirao, and Waimea High School (yes, even principal Mahina and Coach Anguay, and Athletic Director Dino Pabre had their sleeves rolled up!) for blasting out the final bon dance of the year … Grounds crew said the great lawn still had room for more people, although Po‘ipu Road parking was as full as when Kaua‘i hosted the Professional Golf Association Grand Slam golf tournament!

Waimea High School football coach Kylie Linoz and his Menehune had to learn how to do flying saucers and Kaua‘i Community College instructor Brian Yamamoto stood in line for scripts for the visiting students from Suo Oshima and Ishigaki (they’re sister cities) … Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami and Council Chair Mel Rapozo had their schedules full with visiting sister city Laoag of the Philippines and Mayor Michael Marcos Keon and his delegation.
Randy Francisco was frustrated because he was involved with Stephanie Iona, Laurie Yoshida, Teddy Arroyo and Senate President Ron Kouchi in hosting the University of Hawai‘i men’s basketball coach Eran Ganot and the UH team that led a keiki basketball clinic featuring Olympic player Akira Jacobs (no, he represented Japan at the France games, but came home to make the clinic) … Akira, who graduated from I‘olani, got to play against the Summer Games’ eventual gold medal winning Team USA.
