LIHU‘E — As the state of Hawai‘i observes the one-year mark of the Lahaina fire, Governor Josh Green ordered all flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the 102 lives lost in the August 2023 Maui wildfires.
One year ago today, the Lahaina wildfire destroyed and changed the lives of the residents on the island of Maui.
Green ordered all United States flags along with the Hawaiian state flag be flown at half-staff in honor of the 102 lives lost. The order is effective from sunrise on Thursday, Aug. 8, to sunset on Monday, Aug. 12.
“Exactly one year ago, we lost cherished lives of mothers, fathers, grandparents, sons, daughters and friends. As we observe the one year-mark of the Maui wildfires through commemorative events this weekend, let’s honor their memories and never forget those we lost in Lahaina,” Green said.
“Together, we will pave a path toward resilience and hope, preserve the spirit of Lahaina, and continue to rebuilt with the community with strength and unity.”
