Pacita Valencia Simpliciano
Pacita Valencia Simpliciano, of Kekaha, passed away on July 4, 2024, at home. She was born on March 14, 1950, in Capasan, Philippines.
She was preceded in death by parents Juan Valencia and Segundina Gali Valencia and sister Helen Valencia Peterson.
She is survived by husband Manny Simpliciano of Kekaha, son Edgar (Cat Gano) Simpliciano of Kekaha, daughters Edna (Mike Parel) Simpliciano of O‘ahu, Lina (Michael) Agtunong of Lihu‘e, grandchildren November Siena Parel, Sebastian Parel, Micah Agtunong, brothers Pedro (Rita) Valencia of Hanapepe, Benito (Cina) Valencia of Hanama‘ulu, sisters Presentacion Aguino of ‘Ele‘ele, Herminia Ancheta of Kekaha, Soledad Valencia of ‘Ele‘ele, Dolores (Wayne) Delos Santos of Hanama‘ulu, Merlita Valencia of Lihu‘e, Susana (Dan) Abadilla of Kekaha, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private service was held.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Robert Agosto
Robert “Bobby” “Aggos” Agosto passed away on July 16, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born on June 19, 1948, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He graduated from Waimea High School and Kauai Community College. He will be remembered for his loud contagious laugh. He was a painter for James Nakagawa Painting, a mechanic, an avid deep-sea scuba diver, and a fisherman with a passion for martial arts.
He was preceded in death by father Fortunato Agosto Sr., grandfather Juan Rapada and brother Fortunato “Foto” Agosto Jr.
He is survived by son Robert “Shilum” Agosto of Kekaha, daughter Shayla Agosto of Seattle, Washington, mother Loretta Rapada Agosto, two grandchildren, brothers Ben (Anna) Agosto of Waipahu, O‘ahu, Brandon Agosto of Kalaheo, sisters Kathryn “Kathy” (Dennis) Yamamoto of Mililani, O‘ahu, Elizabeth “Liz” (George) Kawamura of Kalaheo, Jane (Rodney) Williams of Seattle, Washington, Lorna (Tommy) Takayama of Mililani, O‘ahu, Lesley (Michael) Castillo of Kapalua, Maui, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation begins at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 2:45 p.m.

Patricio ‘Patty’ Borja Tayamen
Patricio “Patty” Borja Tayamen, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on July 19, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 62. He was born on Feb. 21, 1962, in Baay, Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He worked for McBryde, a senior analyst for Robinson, the County of Kaua‘i, Kiahuna Plantation, and his family business, Patty’s Lechon.
He was preceded in death by father Mauricio Tayamen, brother Ceasar Tayamen, in-laws Eulalio and Alejandra Basilio, brothers-in-law Florencio Basilio, Cornelio Basilio, Felino Basilio and Teofilo Basilio.
He is survived by wife Angela “Angie” Basilio Tayamen, sons Patrick Angelo Tayamen, Patrick George Tayamen of the Philippines, daughters Gelene Tayamen of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lyrica (Romnick) Musni of O‘ahu, Trisna Adsuara Tayamen of the Philippines, mother Magdalena (Tayamen) of the Philippines, brothers Oscar Tayamen, Marcos Tayamen of the Philippines, sisters Rosievic Bareng of the Philippines, Nina Lagmay of Dubai, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Presentacion ‘Connie’ Navales Maglasang
Presentacion “Connie” Navales Maglasang, 90, of Koloa, passed away at home in Koloa on July 18, 2024. She was born in Koloa on Nov. 21, 1933.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband Loretto “Charlie” Navales, second husband Edward Maglasang and son Les Navales.
She is survived by sons Michael (Joan) Navales, Wendall “Pope” Navales, daughters Charlene (Chris) Gammerino, Lori (Shui) Navales, hanai daughter LaFrance Bergonia, grandchildren Nicholas “Kali” Navales, Michelle Tupou, Charles Nelson, Allen Meafua, Adam Meafua, Anthony Gammerino, Wailana Blackstad, hanai granddaughters Jemme Haupt, Kaisha, sister Helena Balalong, numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens, 4716 Maalo Rd, Lihu‘e, near Kapaia, Hawai‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by services from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will take place on Aug. 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Matthew James Ornellas Jr.
Matthew James Ornellas Jr., 33, of Kapa‘a, passed away on March 25, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1990, and was loved by many. He graduated from Kapa‘a High School and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Frank and Emily Barretto Sr., paternal grandparents Joseph and Dorothy Ornellas Jr.
He is survived by his parents Sharleen (Jon) Ornellas, Matthew Jimmy (Liz) Ornellas Sr., sisters Jamilynn (Pat) Ornellas, Jaslynn Ornellas, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. All whom Matt loved dearly.
A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Wailua Houselots Park with visitation from 11 a.m. and prayers to follow at 12 p.m. The family graciously declines flowers.

Magdalena Gallardo, 89, a homemaker, passed away peacefully in Aiea, O‘ahu, on July 18, 2024. She was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, and lived most of her life in Hanama‘ulu.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Gallardo.
She is survived by her seven children Stephen (Greta) Gallardo, Jeffrey (Nornette) Gallardo, Corinne Gallardo, Kathleen (Robert) Medeiros, Valerie Gallardo, Sandy (Shae) Gallardo, Candice Gallardo, brother Domingo Beralas of Texas, sister Monica Ragudo of California, grandchildren Enchante Gallardo, Dante Gallardo, Giselle Gallardo, Chauntel Nakata, Puna Gallardo, Jabryann (Keith) Krejc, Kendrah Gallardo, Caleb Gallardo, Nicole (Armando) Montalvo, Eric (Kanani) Medeiros, Adam Medeiros, Ashlee Gallardo, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private viewing is planned for Aug. 9, 2024, at Borthwick Mortuary, O‘ahu. A Celebration of Love and scattering on Kaua‘i will be announced at a later date.
