The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) said it responded to a traffic incident on Nalu Road in Kapa‘a after a report of a man being hit by a dump truck while he was riding a moped.
At approximately 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, the dump truck was backing up when it struck the man on the moped.
KPD’s Traffic Safety Section arrived on the scene and limited the flow of traffic to alternating lanes for about an hour while it conducted an on-scene investigation.
The victim was identified as a 62-year-old man from Kapa‘a. He suffered injuries to his leg and was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center in Lihu‘e for treatment. His condition has not been updated.
The driver of the dump truck was identified as a 46-year-old man from Kalaheo. He did not report any injuries.
