KAPA‘A — A structure fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damage and displaced five people, as well as a pet, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department said Kapa‘a Fire Station and Kaiakea Fire Station personnel were dispatched to Kahuna Road in Kapa‘a after receiving a report of a structure fire at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
“According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 4:20 p.m., firefighters discovered a one-story structure fully engulfed in flames,” the fire department said on Wednesday. “While firefighters were battling the fire, electrical and gas utilities were shut off.”
Kaua‘i Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation after firefighters controlled and extinguished the fire. The structure appeared to be a residence, based on a photograph of the scene released by the Kaua‘i Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the displaced individuals, as well as the pet.
Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, Department of Public Works and Kaua‘i Police Department personnel also responded to the scene, which was cleared by firefighters shortly after 9:35 p.m. No injuries were reported in the incident.
