Lauren Adele Segawa
The life of Lauren Adele Segawa drew to a peaceful close on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Surrounded by loved ones in Kailua, Hawai‘i, Laurie regrettably succumbed to injuries she sustained in an accident earlier this year.
It is a funny thing how we wait until the end of someone’s life to say the things we have always wanted to say. Laurie was a powerhouse; a force to be reckoned with. Despite her small stature, Laurie was larger than life. From her green eyeshadow to her red acrylic nails, you looked at Laurie, and you just knew that she had wisdom to share.
Laurie was born on Oct. 27, 1951, in Berkeley, California. She lived in San Leandro for most of her life before settling in Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, over thirty years ago. Laurie was an avid traveler, having visited over thirty countries across five continents and 47 of the 50 United States. She had an affinity for good wine, good food, and good company. She touched the lives of many, and that’s evident in the flood of messages the family’s received since her accident. Lifelong friends of Laurie, as well as those who’ve only recently met her, have expressed an outpouring of love and support.
Laurie lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end. Her absence has left a void in all of our hearts. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Richard Segawa, two sons, Christopher and David Gilland, two stepchildren, Andrew Segawa, and Casey Ai, as well as eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
As we say our farewells for now, we tightly embrace the warmth of her love and the memory of her laughter. We love you, Laurie.
