MANA — Alma Koetje powered her 1998 Corvette to a first finish on July 6 during the first day of a two-day July Fourth drag races at Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana.
Alma was en route to a second finish in the division on the second day of racing, but red lighted, which means she popped the gas ahead of the green light on the Christmas tree.
Another Koetje, Sophia, finished in second place in the Junior Dragster division during the July 8 division.
And, what happens when the first and second place finishers of a division break out, or go faster than their dial-in time, which is determined during the Tech Time Trials? This happened during the July 6 races when Brandon Fujishige and Mikey Remigio, racing in the Street class, each broke out. Does this give the semifinalist Jackie Nakamura, who did not breakout or red light, the win?
More women drag race drivers will be in action at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana, when the Garden Isle Racing Association presents its next drag races on Aug. 10 featuring the special NAPA Ladies Night event.
