HANAPEPE — Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity recently announced that more than a dozen local volunteers will work with the Hanapepe-based organization to build decent and affordable housing as part of Habitat for Humanity’s 2024 Women Build event on Aug. 9.
As one of Kaua‘i Habitat’s most empowering events of the year, Women Build encourages women as well as men to devote at least one day to help families build decent and affordable housing in the community.
On Women Build day, volunteers will take on construction project in Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s Waimea Huakai subdivision to celebrate the strength and resilience of women.
County of Kaua‘i Managing Director Reiko Matsuyama is the guest speaker.
Lunch and fellowship are included as current Habitat homebuyers share stories of their experiences.
The build day is open to all adults with all levels of construction experience.
Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical, nonprofit, Christian housing ministry. Its mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world — one house at a time on Kaua‘i — and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Since 1992, Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity has built 239 affordable homes and made critical repairs to 37 existing homes for Kaua‘i families whose household income is between 30 to 80 percent of the median Kaua‘i income.
Volunteers are being sought. People can register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/women-build-2024-tickets-910096943457?aff=oddtdtcreator.
