Voting opened on Friday for the top U.S. Trail at https://www.railstotrails.org/hall-of-fame/.
Ke Ala Hele Makalae, or the Kapa‘a multi-use path, is one of the three highest nominees along with the Razorback Greenway in Arkansas, and the Santa Cruz Loop in Arizona, said Margy Parker for the Royal Coconut Coast Association.
Parker said people may vote as many times as they desire, every day through Aug. 4.
Trails inducted into the Hall of Fame receive a variety of honors, including special signage to place along the path, a Trail of the Month feature, and a highlight in Rails to Trails magazine.
The county’s Elections Division is accepting completed ballots for the primary election through the specially installed ballot boxes that were installed at different locations throughout the island. The ballot boxes are safe, secure and feature daily pickups. Primary election day is Aug. 10.
The roads and bus schedules around Koloa are getting ready for the 38th annual Parade and Park Celebration that gets underway on Saturday with the gates of the Anne Knudsen Park opening at 9 a.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and ends at Anne Knudsen Park.
Anaina Hou is also hosting its first Anaina Hou Community Pa‘ina all-day, all ages party starting at 9 a.m., Saturday and running throughout the day until 5 p.m. in Kilauea. The fundraiser will feature water slides, bounce houses, arcade games, lawn games and music.
Beverage and food is available all day from the Anaina Hou kitchen, Sunset Lanai, Ally’s Cocina or Silver Cloud eatery.
And don’t forget Edwin Vea and The Beach House Craft Fair on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
