Congratulations to Kawena Rivera for being selected the winner of the Back to School Bash Grand Prize drawing … looks like her family has a place to staycation during the upcoming school year.

Kudos to all the volunteers and organizers to getting the 2,10o backpacks of school supplies distributed without incident … Happy birthday to Denise Roberts of KQNG Radio who had time to remind people that Wilcox Health will be hosting the Keiki Bicycle and Skateboard Safety Day (you can still preregister by visiting www.WilcoxHealth.org/BikeSafety) this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Wilcox Medical Center back parking lot … look for the flags.
Wood Carver Kenneth Bray was making the wood chips fly as he worked on the developing tiki near the Bandwagon studio at Kukui Grove. Kenneth said he is targeting finishing the piece by Friday since he’ll be participating in the 58th Koloa Plantation Days, which starts on Friday.
Friday is also the start of the bon dance weekend (wasn’t bon dance a part of the plantation lifestyle, as well as a showcase piece for Japanese culture?) at the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission in Kapaia where food service starts at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday … Did the county’s crews mow the grass along Ma‘alo Road?
And, more Koloa Plantation Days events on Saturday with the Hapa Trail Walk that starts at 9 a.m., but early arrivals can talk story with the St. Raphael Church people at the coffee hour that starts at 8:30 a.m.
Sunday events include the popular Miniature Golf Tournament at the Lawai Beach Resort rooftop course that starts at 10 a.m. (good thing the Boogie Board Classic was last week) and head up to Dark Horse Coffee (it’s in the old Koloa YBA Hall) where the historical exhibit opens from noon.
