KAUMAKANI — An evacuation notice has been issued for residents in Kaumakani because of a fast-moving brush fire in the area.
The County of Kaua‘i issued the notice at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday. Kaumuali‘i Highway is closed from Lele Road in Hanapepe to Kaumakani near Aloha Sweet Delites.
The brush fire has also prompted Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative to de-energize its transmission lines from Kaumakani to Mana. All customers who are served by those transmission lines will be without power until further notice.
Additionally, an evacuation center is open at Waimea High School for Kaumakani residents.
