Sister Marcelia Maglinte, BVM, 85, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Mount Carmel Bluffs, Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation, the Sharing of Memories and Mass of Christian Burial were on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Burial was in the Mount Carmel cemetery.
Sister Marcelia was born on March 2, 1939, in Kealia, Hawai‘i, to Demetrio and Marcela (Boca) Maglinte. She entered the BVM congregation Aug. 2, 1957, from St. Catherine parish, Kapaʿa, Hawai‘i. She professed first vows on Feb. 3, 1960, and final vows on July 16, 1965.
Sister Marcelia ministered at Maui Waena Intermediate School, Kapa‘a High School, and Kapa‘a International School, all in Hawai‘i. She served as director of religious education at St. Catherine Parish, Kapa‘a, Hawai‘i. She also served as an elementary teacher at Kapa‘a, Kilauea, and Lihikai Elementary Schools, Hawaii‘; Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bartholomew, Chicago; St Joseph, Round Lake, Ill.; St. Anthony, Missoula, Mont.; and in California at St. Bernard, Los Angeles, at Presentation in Stockton and St. Patrick in Carlsbad.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Isidra “Manang” (Simeon) Aqui, Adela (Silverio “Fred”) Galvez, Segunda “Sally” (Kenneth “Mano”) Pia, Jovita “Bita” (Quirino “Cas”) Domingo, Plecita “Boy” (Adriano) Mendoza, and Beatrice “Atey” (Justiniano) Tactay and brother-in-law Delpidio “Sonny” Labuguen.
She is survived by sisters Cresencia “Cres” Labuguen, Hawai‘i, Gloria “Toneng” (Angel) Madrid, Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 66 years.

Karen Yadao Guillermo
Karen Yadao Guillermo, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and sister, passed away on June 2, 2024, at the age of 78. She was born on March 22, 1946, in Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, and most recently resided in Wailua Homesteads, Hawai‘i.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Apolinario Yadao and Ambrocia Salmasan Yadao, as well as her sisters Aurora Yadao, Soledad Pasion, Elenora Basuel, Esmenia Barba, Paula Cadaoas, Felipa Manuel, Florentina Fedalizo, Gloria Acoba, brothers James Yadao and Cisario Yadao.
Karen leaves behind her loving sister Veronica Yadao (Robert) Cook of Wailua Homesteads, daughters Michelle (Tony) Rapozo of Kapa‘a, Renee (Randy) Spears of Wailua Homesteads, Julie (Mark) Washington of Wailua Homesteads, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Karen Yadao Guillermo will be deeply missed by all her loved ones, whose lives were touched by her kindness, love, and generosity. May she rest in eternal peace, forever cherished in their hearts.
Celebration of Life will be held at Kapa‘a Missionary Church on July 20, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., service to start at 10 a.m. with lunch to follow.
