First week, second week? This is all confusing … where was Toddler Tuesday? Dr. Michael Oride said he’s fully retired, now, and had time to look for lunch at Kukui Grove Center while waiting on the toddler show … Oh, it was last week and the next one is coming this Tuesday. Nely Caberto and Alicia Miyashiro (Tyrus was down at the jewelry repair place) were getting a head start on packing the Back to School Bash backpacks.

The Sixth annual Garden Island Boogie Board Classic starts Friday at Prince Kuhio Beach and runs through Sunday with the awards taking place at the Prince Kuhio Park … I guess Edwin Vea’s Beach House Craft Fair is next Sunday.
This weekend is the West Kaua‘i Hongwanji bon dance (the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i crew cleaning the Koloa monument said they will have the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i bon dance on Aug. 9!) on Friday and Saturday evening. This is a good time to check out the Men of the Koi Dynasty and their 15th anniversary of bon dancing and enjoy some flying saucers and yakitori.
And, if you’re early, there is always the Hanapepe Friday Night Art (Rich Greenberg is coming in from the mainland to have his book signing at the Talk Story Bookstore on July 26).
Kudos to the more than 75 volunteers, who made short work of the 2,700 school supplies backpacks that will be distributed on Saturday during the Back to School Bash at Kukui Grove Center from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. (all unclaimed backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 2:15 p.m.).
To help teachers and educators, Elyse Litvack and Kumu’s Cupboard volunteers will be having a school supplies drive (monetary contributions accepted, too) on Saturday during the Grove Farm Market from 9:30 a.m.
Stay safe and keep the lights on!
