The Waimea Fire Station received the first fire call shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, and was immediately dispatched to the Paulaula State Historic Site in Waimea.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) and Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD), along with the landowner, responded to the incident.
KFD said that firefighters arrived on the scene shortly before 12:25 p.m., and discovered a 50-foot by 50-foot area of grass and brush on fire.
Fire personnel quickly took control of the scene with help from the landowner. The scene was cleared shortly before 2:45 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
The second fire call was reported by KPD Dispatch shortly before 5:55 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters with both the Kalaheo and Hanapepe fire stations were dispatched to a building fire on Ikena Place
KFD said that fire personnel arrived on the scene at approximately 6 p.m., at which time firemen discovered a fire on the second floor of a two-story condo.
Fire personnel successfully knocked the flames down and extinguished the fire, confining the fire to a storage room.
Once the scene was cleared, it was handed over to the Fire Prevention Bureau so that they could conduct their investigation. The scene was cleared shortly after 7:40 p.m. The cost and damages to the building are estimated at $35,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
