Update: One person killed, two people missing after helicopter crash off Na Pali Coast on Thursday afternoon

NA PALI COAST — One person was killed and two people are missing after a helicopter crashed in the ocean along the Na Pali Coast on Thursday afternoon.

The helicopter went down in an area fronting the Hanakoa Valley at approximately 1:20 p.m. The helicopter was with Ali‘i Kaua‘i Air Tours and Charters, the Kaua‘i Police Department said. One body was recovered at approximately 2:25 p.m.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Hikers on the Kalalau Trail saw the helicopter crash and reported the incident to the Kaua‘i Police Department.

The U.S. Coast Guard will continue to search the area overnight for the other two people, while County of Kaua‘i search and rescue operations were paused at sunset. County of Kaua‘i search operations will resume at sunrise on Friday.

NA PALI COAST — A helicopter crashed in the ocean along the Na Pali Coast on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The helicopter went down in an area fronting the Hanakoa Valley at approximately 1:20 p.m. Multiple agencies have responded to the site, including the U.S. Coast Guard and Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, as well as Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, Ocean Safety Bureau and Kaua‘i Police Department personnel also responded to the incident, the Kaua‘i Fire Department said.
