Summer ‘Ukulele Kids Course that starts on July 9 and runs from Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. through Aug. 1. All courses will be held at the Lihu‘e Christian Church Social Hall Meeting Room.
Designed for kid players ages 6 through 12 years old, the course will take keiki through picking and strumming simple ‘ukulele songs, singing and playing, and most importantly, how to properly hold and perform with the instrument. Participants must bring their own ‘ukulele.
There is a limit of 25 students. The four-week class is $150. Registration is at www.aldrine.com/lessons.
Following the class, students can participate in a showcase performance scheduled for Aug. 3 at the Kukui Grove Center stage.
Preregistration for the 2,500 free backpacks of school supplies sold out within a day, but Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center said there will be enough premiums from this year’s sponsors to ensure that everyone gets something at the Back to School Bash, which takes place on Saturday.
Additionally, any unclaimed backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis starting after 2 p.m.
