KILAUEA — North Shore residents have been notified that construction of a new roundabout has started in Kilauea.
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced that Goodfellow Brothers have taken on the $12 million dollar project that will include a new drainage system and improvements for pedestrians.
The roundabout is being constructed on Kuhio Highway at Kalamania Road and Kolo Road.
Construction work, which began in May 2024, currently involves relocating utilities, potholing of the waterline and installation of a dust fence along with the removal and relocation of The Kaua‘i Bus stop. The bus stop has been temporarily placed in front of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church for both northbound (500 Hanalei line) and southbound route (400 Lihu‘e line).
Residents are advised to use alternate exit routes to ease traffic congestion in the area, as construction to renovate the Kilauea Neighborhood Center is also underway.
The Kilauea roundabout project is expected to be completed by December 2025.
