HILO, Hawai‘i — Keith Haraguchi of the Kaua‘i Bronco All-Stars conked a three-run homer on Sunday to help lead the Kaua‘i squad to a 12-1 win over the Maui Bronco All-Stars at the Walter Victor Baseball complex in Hilo.
The victory gave the 2024 Protect Our Nation’s Youth Baseball Bronco State Champion pennant to the Kaua‘ team for the second straight year after the Kaua‘i Broncos beat West Hawai‘i last year in the tournament.
Makoa Mizumoto-Perez connected with another three-run homer on Saturday to help the Kaua‘i bats during the championship journey.
Kaua‘i opened its tour with an 11-0 shutout over the Maui Bronco All-Stars to advance against the Hilo team. They got past the tournament home team 9-3 to set up the rematch against Maui on Sunday.
The 14-member Kaua‘i Bronco All-Stars are Gerald Aceret-Coloma, Aries Arruda, La‘akea Chang Wo, Jacoby Dotario, Pi‘ikea Furuta, Logan Gonsalves, Keith Haraguchi, Bronsen Ka‘auwai, Kaeden Kelekoma, Kimo Matsushima, Makoa Mizumoto-Perez, Knox Pegeder, Shay Yamase, and Taj Yoshimori.
Coaches for Kaua‘i are Stanton Yoshimori, Manager Gino Pegeder, and Business Manager Shay Yamase.
With the state pennant secured, the Kaua‘i Bronco All-Stars advance to compete in Moreno Valley, California, in the PONY West Zone Tournament that will take place from July 18-21.
The Kaua‘i Bronco All-Stars will be fundraising to help with travel expenses for the West Zone tournament during the Kaua‘i Hospice “Concert in the Sky” on Thursday when gates to the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields open at 3:30 p.m.
