WAILUA — A 71-year-old California woman was rescued from Sleeping Giant Trail after suffering a leg injury on Wednesday, June, 26.
A Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) rescue crew with the Kapa‘a Fire station responded to the emergency call about an injured hiker on the Nounou East Trail, also known as Sleeping Giant Trail, in Wailua at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Rescue 3 and Air 1 also responded to the incident.
“According to a preliminary report, first responders arrived on scene and discovered the injured hiker near the top of the Sleeping Giant Trail,” the KFD said.
“First responders stabilized the hiker’s leg using a splint, secured her via air rescue vest, and used a short-haul to load and transport her via Air 1 to awaiting firefighters and AMR (American Medical Response) personnel at a landing zone at Wailua Houselots Park.”
AMR personnel continued treatment on the visitor before transporting her to the Wilcox Medical Center in Lihu‘e.
The scene was cleared at approximately 11:15 a.m.
