Burmese grapes are only available at The Culinary Market at The Shops on Kukui‘ula on Wednesday afternoons … get yours while the tree (Flora Worth said Khwan Seechachet’s father got his tree from Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping) is going off. Khwan said O.K. King Farms only appears at the Kuku‘iula market. So, where is Brooklyn, Flora’s granddaughter, to learn how to eat these morsels (Khwan said the brown ones are sweeter!), local style?

Kudos Stacie Chiba-Miguel and Pillare Mukai for bringing back Hula Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala to help lead lei-making and selling lei as a fundraiser for the group’s trip to the Queen Lili‘uokalani Keiki Hula festival and competition … Pillare said the halau (thank you, halau moms!) received such a great reception, they had to bring them back.
One market shopper even said she is going to Ho‘ohanohano Mo‘omeheu on Saturday (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa to take one of the lei workshops presented by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau.
The Shops at Kuku‘iula is also hosting several events tying in with this year’s Koloa Plantation Days, which is waiting until after the Fourth of July (Garrett Agena said there will be the annual Kekaha Fourth from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and everyone is welcome) to get in full swing.
The fourth falls on Thursday and is a government holiday. Gates to the Kaua‘i Hospice Concert in the Sky (pre-sale tickets available at the Kaua‘i Hospice website at www.kauaihospice.org) open at 3:30 p.m., and mahalo to King Auto Center for providing the fireworks display set to music.
More fireworks are planned for the Pacific Missile Range Morale Wellness and Recreation Committee’s Freedom Fest (who’s not going to Honolulu so they can see the American Idol winner?) that takes place on July 3 at the PMRF base … no, drag races aren’t until the weekend.
