NUKOLI‘I — The Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce took advantage of its Business Pau Hana Event on Tuesday to distribute $10,500 in scholarships to six students at the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
Witnessed by more than 150 guests, one of the bigger audiences since the Covid-19 pandemic, Chamber of Commerce President Mark Perriello said the scholarship recipients included Kaua‘i Community College student Kyllie Belmonte, who was awarded $500 toward completing her field of study.
The five remaining student recipients were graduating seniors from all of the island’s high schools, including Island School. Chloe Inouye, who recently signed her Letter of Intent to swim at Pepperdine University, was the representative of Island School. She received a $2,000 award.
Talen Koerte, a graduate from Kaua‘i High School who told the Gather Federal Credit Union audience of his intent to fix the roads on Kaua‘i, was the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship.
Myme Lomongo and Jaiden Sams, who recently graduated from Waimea High School, each received $2,000 scholarships.
Saxon Kimball, of the Kapa‘a High School Class of 2024, earned a $2,000 award.
The Chamber Business Pau Hana event, unfolding to an evening of fine food appetizers and desserts with a no-host bar, under the supervision of Kaua‘i Beach Resort Chef Mark Sassone, was one of the bigger events hosted by the chamber since the pandemic.
The audience gathered at the Jasmine Ballroom for a chance at winning prize giveaways by Hawaiian Airlines, including a West Coast trip for two, a two-night stay at the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort and Spa, and a round-trip ticket to a neighbor island for two.
