Clifton Yoshisuke Hayashi
Clifton Yoshisuke Hayashi
Clifton Yoshisuke Hayashi, of Kapa‘a, passed away on May 22, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born in Lihu‘e on May 4, 1937. He retired from the U.S. Army and afterwards worked as a supervisor for C. Brewer Chemical.
He was preceded in passing by his loving wife of 53 years, Tomeko Hayashi and his parents Keisuke and Shizuko Hayashi.
Clifton is survived by his children Wesley Hayashi, Gene (Jacklyn) Hayashi, Christine (Stephen) Brown, grandchildren Starlene Baptiste, Charles Brown, Maile Maeda, Trevor Boro, Kira (Tyrus) Ceria-Lux, Justin (Camille) Hayashi, Mitsy Hayashi, Ridge Hayashi, Keesha Brown, great-grandchildren Cherie (Noa) Townsend, Renee Baptiste, James Baptiste, Kahealani (Arist) DeWolff, Ponomaikalani Yoshizawa-Brown, Tiare Brown, Taneal Brown, Kalanuikea Baptiste, Ezikiel Brown, Akoni Villatora, Alize Brown, Kaiea Lum, Makoa Lemke-Hayashi, Charles Jr. Brown, Kimie Maeda, Khailee Maeda, Kaia Ceria-Lux, Cassie Hayashi, Jordyn Hayashi, Kyrus Ceria-Lux, Cyrus Chase Brown, great-great-grandchildren Naveah Baptiste, Tatienna DeWolfe, Natalija DeWolff, Keawe Townsend, Jaxon Baptiste, siblings Joan Yamamoto, Nelson Hayashi, Jean Naito and Melvin (Eunice) Hayashi.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with visitation from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. at Kapa‘a Jodo Mission. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

Eloise Lehua Taniguchi
Eloise Lehua Taniguchi, of Pakala, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 8, 2024, at her residence at the age of 84. She was born on Nov. 1, 1939, at Wilcox Hospital, Kaua‘i . Eloise was a retired custodian at Waimea Canyon School, happily married to her late husband for 59 years. She found joy in venturing with family and friends. Eloise was known for her open door policy, taking in anyone who needed a place to stay and her “read my lips” attitude. Eloise lived her life to the fullest and left peacefully surrounded by families and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Taniguchi Jr., parents Henry and Kila Kanoho, sons George Keoki Taniguchi, Eddie Taniguchi III, sisters Ruth Goo, Grathana Cabral, Iwalani Pimental Soares, Eldean Espiritu Diggs, brothers Steven Konoho, Waianuhea Kanoho, Bruce Kanoho and Henry Kanoho Jr.
She is survived by sons Roger (Lisa) Taniguchi of Pakala, Manuel Taniguchi of Lihu‘e, Eric Morris of Kalaheo, daughter Jasmine (Charlie) Taniguchi-Kahepu‘u of Kekaha, grandchildren Eloise Taniguchi, Wyatt, Cody Taniguchi, Hoku Taniguchi, Britney Koenig Taniguchi, Jessica, Eric Jr., Trixy, Ciara Morris, Alannah GIrod, Gabby, Nohili, Charlie Jr., Shania Kahepu‘u, 27 great-grandchildren, brothers Makalapua Ornellas, Harry Kanoho, sisters Leilani Suenaga, Noelani Ornellas, Jacquelyn (Greg) Figueira, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Celebration of life from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Lunch to follow.

Robert George Yamamoto
Robert George Yamamoto, 82, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on June 18, 2024. He was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Jan. 1, 1942, and retired as a mechanic with Gary’s Service Station and Hawaiian Airlines.
Robert is survived by his wife Heidy Huddy-Yamamoto, sons Robert Mark Yamamoto, Craig Takeshi Yamamoto, Michael Scott Yamamoto, William Kimo Huddy, grandchildren Kylee Yamamoto, Stephanie Edwards, Ryan Yamamoto, Kami Yamamoto, Kauhane Huddy, Audrey Huddy, great-grandchild Micah Ryan Rice, sister Joanne McDowall, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.

Floris H. Wataya
Floris H. Wataya, of Kapa‘a, passed away on May 13, 2024, at the age of 98.
Floris was preceded in death by parents Minoru and Shizuko Tsunehiro Wataya, brother Tsukasa, sister Doris and sister-in-law Yachiyo Wataya.
Floris is survived by nieces Doreen Wataya, Arlene (Kurt) Bosshard, nephew Warren (Christine) Wataya, grandnephews Kyle Wataya, Kevin (Kayla) Wataya, grandnieces Lindsey Bosshard, Kelly (Kevin) Schwing, great-grandnephew Nathan Schwing, great-grandnieces Kinsley, Kaya Wataya. She also leaves behind numerous cousins.

Escolastico ‘Tico’ Acoba Adaoag
Escolastico “Tico” Acoba Adaoag, of Puhi, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2024, at the age of 103. He was born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 10, 1921. He worked for Grove Farm Company then later for McBryde Sugar Company where he retired as a heavy equipment operator engineer.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Emilio Domingcil Adaoag, Simona Acoba Adaoag, his siblings Baldomero Adaoag, Ricky Mercado, Maria Corpuz, Ashang Adaoag, Fortunata Adaoag, Angel Adaoag, Pedro Adaoag, Coliana Adaoag, Cenon Adaoag, grandchildren twins Angel Adaoag and Heaven Adaoag.
Tico is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elisa Adaoag, his children Albert Adaoag, Alden (Eva) Adaoag and Amy (Rey) Agcaoili. Tico is also survived by seven grandchildren Deneva Adaoag, Malia Adaoag, Kawika Adaoag, Kean Adaoag, Reyson Agcaoili, Reygan Agcaoili, Rey C. Agcaoili and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Myra Otei Nishiie
Myra Otei Nishiie, of Kilauea, passed away on May 23, 2024, at Garden Isle Rehab & Nursing at the age of 99. She was born May 28, 1924, at Lawa‘i Stable. She was a chambermaid.
She was preceded in death by husband Masayoshi Nishiie and son Patrick Tadao Nishiie.
She is survived by daughter Evelyn (Shawn) Conant of Kilauea, grandchildren Mavi (Bryce) Kaneg, Shay Lehuakona Conant, great-grandchildren Zylan and Umiko, sisters-in-law Chizue Nishiie Kimura of Hanapepe, Stella Kaneko of Kalaheo, Mae Nishiie of California, Celia Nishiie of Kilauea, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i.
Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 10 a.m.
The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Gerald “Jack” Jon Ipo Blackstad, of Lawa‘i, passed away on June 3, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 75. He was born on June 4, 1948, in Koloa
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Verizon Communications, formerly GTE Hawaiian Tel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Agnes Blackstad, sister Aleta Fu and brother Ronald Blackstad.
He is survived by his wife Amy Blackstad, son Brydan (Jana) Blackstad, daughter Chantel (Sim) Blackstad, grandchildren Shelea (Travis) Koa, Brock, Jordyn Blackstad, brothers Michael (Sharon) Blackstad, Payne (Sybil) Blackstad, sister Alexa (Wayne) Samio, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i.
Visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. followed by service at 5 p.m.

Emeteria Ann Nerpio
Emeteria Ann Nerpio fell asleep in death on Sept. 28, 2023, in Keaau, Big Island, at the age of 89. She was born on Jan. 11, 1934, to the late Gabino and Cristina Dela Cruz Garcia in Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i. Ann worked at the Kapa‘a Pineapple Cannery and Kalaheo Video Store.
Ann is survived by daughters Jessica (Keith) Caldwell of Kurtistown, Big Island, Rachel Nerpio of Kapa‘a, son Wesley Nerpio of Kapa‘a, brothers Juan (Loretta) Garcia of Oakland, California, Benjamin (Gwen) Garcia of Keaau, Big Island, sixteen grandchildren Jeremiah Jr. Nerpio, Chad (Ashley) Nerpio, Brandon (Lisa) Nerpio, Phaedra (Tim) Figlinski, Levi (Nani) Nerpio, Lawrence “Squeaky” Taniguchi, Jeremy Taniguchi, Jennifer Fernandez, Shanelle Nerpio, Bronson Nerpio, Reno Nerpio, Jedediah Nerpio, Saundri (Matthew) Grant, Christina (Donivan) Konno, Brian Bentley, Keelan Nerpio, eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Stacy O Nerpio of Wailuku, Maui, numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Antero Nerpio, sons Jeremiah (Sharon) Nerpio, Jonathan Nerpio, Mark Nerpio, brothers Alfonso Garcia, Marcelino Garcia, Bonifacio Garcia, sister Ambrosia “Maggie” (Herman) Romero, granddaughter Laurann Harris and grandson Jack Nerpio.
Friends are invited to join her family on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for her memorial service. Her service will also be on zoom.
The family requests aloha attire and graciously declines monetary gifts (koden).
Harmony Ching
Harmony Ching, 90, of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, proud U.S. Marine, retired Sheriff for the State of Hawai‘i and retired Security Officer for PMRF, peacefully passed away on June 6, 2024, comforted by music and with his family lovingly by his side.
Known by many as Harmo, Harmon or Pili, he was gifted with a beautiful voice, a “green thumb” and was passionate about his cooking.
He had many other talents and had a wide variety of occupations. Harmon was a “Jack of All Trades”, “seeker of knowledge” and DIY Master.
He could do a little or a lot of “everything”. He had so much insight and gave the best advice.
Harmon was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and made his family his whole world.
His presence will be deary missed.
He is survived by wife Edna, daughters Krystal (Tom), Stephanie (Keola), Valerie and four grandchildren, whom he deeply adored.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lihu‘e Ward Chapel.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m., services at 11 a.m., and Inurnment will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe at 1 p.m.
Aloha or casual attire is requested.
