HA‘ENA — A Colorado visitor died after being pulled from the water off Ha‘ena Beach Park in the North Shore last week.
On Friday, June 21, at approximately 4:30 p.m. first responders were dispatched to Ha‘ena Beach Park for an unresponsive swimmer, the Kauai Police Department (KPD) said.
A lifeguard with the Ocean Safety Bureau (OSB) brought the victim to shore and was administrating resuscitation efforts when medics arrived on scene, and then continued advanced CPR efforts.
The victim was later transported to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue, where the was pronounced dead.
The victim has not been identified and no foul play has been suspected. However, an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident was the second on the North Shore in roughly the last month.
A visitor from Washington died after being pulled from the water off ‘Anini Beach at approximately noon on Friday, May 24. The victim was identified as David Kositsky, 70, the KPD said.
Kositsky had been snorkeling with friends before he was found unresponsive in the water by an OCB lifeguard and brought to shore.
CPR was administered until medics arrived and took over advanced resuscitation efforts. Kositsky was taken to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa‘a, where he was pronounced dead.
