Gerald ‘Jack’ Jon Ipo Blackstad
Gerald “Jack” Jon Ipo Blackstad, of Lawa‘i, passed away on June 3, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 75. He was born on June 4, 1948, in Koloa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Verizon Communications, formerly GTE Hawaiian Tel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Agnes Blackstad, sister Aleta Fu and brother Ronald Blackstad.
He is survived by his wife Amy Blackstad, son Brydan (Jana) Blackstad, daughter Chantel (Sim) Blackstad, three grandchildren, brothers Michael (Sharon) Blackstad, Payne (Sybil) Blackstad, sister Alexa (Wayne) Samio, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. followed by service at 5 p.m.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Melvin Kauahi
Melvin Kauahi, of Lawa‘i, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Lihue at the age of 80. He was born on Aug. 26, 1943, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He is a veteran of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard and retired Chief Master Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Hao Kauahi and Christobel Kaanohiokalani Holt Kauahi, siblings Christopher Owen Hao Kauahi, Herberta Hanakaulani Montgomery, Herbert Holt “Kabule” Kauahi and Christobel Kaliko Kealoha.
He is survived by his wife Ethel Sumie Naito Kauahi of Lawa‘i, sons Kendall Kei Kaina Kauahi of Kaneohe, Jason Jun Kunane Kauahi of Kaneohe, daughter Denise Chiemi Kaliko Kauahi of Alhambra, California, three grandchildren, brother Dennis Kauahi of Makakilo, sister Sandra Napua Kinsey of Baker, Montana, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life.

Wayson Frederick Iwasak
Wayson Frederick Iwasaki, of Lawai, passed away on June 14, 2024, at home at the age of 73. He was born on April 11, 1951, in Honolulu. He is a veteran of the Air National Guard, retired Major Commander and Air Weapons Controller.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Iwasaki, mother Christina Escalona, sisters Carol Ka‘ai, Colleen Medeiros-Kurch, Earlene Frenk and brother Kevin Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his partner/girlfriend Rosary Lindsey, sons Kaleo Iwasaki of Honolulu, T. J. Iawsaki of Kaua‘i, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother George Medeiros of California, sister Paddy (Ray) Anami of O‘ahu, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at a later date.

Marilyn Geronimo Venzon
Marilyn Geronimo Venzon, 75, of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, passed away on May 14, 2024, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. She was born on June 11, 1948, in the Philippines. She was a sales associate at Liberty House, which later became Macy’s and retired in June 2023.
She was preceded in death by parents Prudencio Geronimo and Rosita Geronimo.
She is survived by husband Conrado (Raddy) Venzon, daughters Chastity, Heidi, Radlynn, grandsons Xavier, Xavian, Kai of California, granddaughter Mia Elysse of Kaua‘i, brothers Ed (Rina) Geronimo of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, Arnel (Delia) Geronimo of Ontario, Canada, sisters Emma Geronimo of California, Josephine Sanchez, nephew Daniel Sanchez and niece Daphne (Mateo) Sanchez Halverson.
On Kaua‘i: A Celebration of Life is Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Kauai Philippine Cultural Center. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m.
On O‘ahu: A Memorial Service and Burial is Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Mililani Memorial Park, with service at 10:30 a.m.
