Escolastico ‘Tico’ Acoba Adaoag
Escolastico “Tico” Acoba Adaoag, of Puhi, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2024, at the age of 103. He was born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 10, 1921. He worked for Grove Farm Company then later for McBryde Sugar Company where he retired as a heavy equipment operator engineer.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Emilio Domingcil Adaoag and Simona Acoba Adaoag, his siblings Baldomero Adaoag, Ricky Mercado, Maria Corpuz, Ashang Adaoag, Fortunata Adaoag, Angel Adaoag, Pedro Adaoag, Coliana Adaoag, Cenon Adaoag, grandchildren twins Angel Adaoag and Heaven Adaoag.
Tico is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elisa Adaoag, his children Albert Adaoag, Alden (Eva) Adaoag and Amy (Rey) Agcaoili. Tico is also survived by seven grandchildren Deneva Adaoag, Malia Adaoag, Kawika Adaoag, Kean Adaoag, Reyson Agcaoili, Reygan Agcaoili, Rey C. Agcaoili, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Mary Ann Akana Bender
Mary Ann Akana Bender passed away peacefully at home in Keapana on May 22, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Waimea, Kaua‘i.
She was a “people person” and a great listener, a proud graduate of Kamehameha Schools Class of 1950, a sports fan, especially of the ‘Bows. She loved her family and friends and prayed for many.
She loved our Heavenly Father.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Bender, sons Kimo and Shane, parents Nicholas and Tillie Perreira Akana, siblings Adam, James and Katherine.
She is survived by her son Mark (TJ Love) of Texas, daughter Donna Kuulei (Roy) Ho of Keapana, grandchildren Guy (Jona) Ho, James (Monique) Bender, Kekoa Bender, Ryan (Tina) Ho, Sean (Anne) Ho, great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Gavin, Kaiolohia, James, Charlton, Zoey, Sophia, Ayla, Jacob, Hadley, Ashton, Ethan, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
The family requests flowers be omitted and graciously declines monetary gifts (koden). If you wish, a donation to the church or your favorite charity is maika‘i.

Peter Randall Riopta
Peter Randall Riopta, of Hanama‘ulu, went home to heaven on May 7, 2024, at the age of 66. He was born on Jan. 11, 1958, on Oma‘o Bridge, Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in passing by father Pedro Redor Riopta, mother Juliet Ellasos Riopta, grandfather Silverio Ellasos, grandmother Suzie Salvacion and granddaughter Alazne Amorin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Esther Jimenez Riopta, daughters Brooke (Travis) Aguinaldo, Amber (Emerson) Amorin, Casie Riopta, son Donovan Riopta, grandchildren Cainan Aguinaldo, Aryana Amorin, Alexia Amorin, Wana‘ao Naihe, Ethan Amorin, Cailer Aguinaldo, Caitlyn Aguinaldo, numerous aunties, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle, friend, and coach to many. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on June 21, 2024, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center. Viewing at 8:30 a.m. Service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Marie Texeira Moura
Dorothy Marie Texeira Moura, of Kalaheo, passed away on May 21, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on May 17, 1933, on Kaua‘i. She was manager of Duarte’s Liquor Store.
She was preceded in death by husband Albert Moura, parents Joseph and Elsie Texeira, brothers David (Dorothy) Texeira, Sonny (Millie) Texeira, Billy (Ida) Texeira, sisters Gussie (Bill) Souza, Beatrice Lang, Frances (Joe) Getler and Majorie (Jack) Bullock.
She is survived by daughters Marlene (Larry) Moises, Tanya (James) Brown, Audrey (Wayne) Bonilla, grandchildren Brandon (Brandi) Moises, Tyson (SheriAnn) Moises, Dustin (Kristi) Moises, Marissa (Mel) Purcell, Cody (Mele) Bonilla and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Emeteria Ann Nerpio fell asleep in death on Sept. 28, 2023, in Keaau, Big Island, at the age of 89. She was born on Jan. 11, 1934, to the late Gabino and Cristina Dela Cruz Garcia in Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i. Ann worked at the Kapa‘a Pineapple Cannery and Kalaheo Video Store.
Ann is survived by daughters Jessica (Keith) Caldwell of Kurtistown, Big Island, Rachel Nerpio of Kapa‘a, son Wesley Nerpio of Kapa‘a, brothers Juan (Loretta) Garcia of Oakland, California, Benjamin (Gwen) Garcia of Keaau, Big Island, sixteen grandchildren Jeremiah Jr. Nerpio, Chad (Ashley) Nerpio, Brandon (Lisa) Nerpio, Phaedra (Tim) Figlinski, Levi (Nani) Nerpio, Lawrence “Squeaky” Taniguchi, Jeremy Taniguchi, Jennifer Fernandez, Shanelle Nerpio, Bronson Nerpio, Reno Nerpio, Jedediah Nerpio, Saundri (Matthew) Grant, Christina (Donivan) Konno, Brian Bentley, Keelan Nerpio, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Stacy O Nerpio of Wailuku, Maui, numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Antero Nerpio, sons Jeremiah (Sharon) Nerpio, Jonathan Nerpio, Mark Nerpio, brothers Alfonso Garcia, Marcelino Garcia, Bonifacio Garcia, sister Ambrosia “Maggie” (Herman) Romero, granddaughter Laurann Harris and grandson Jack Nerpio.
Friends are invited to join her family on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for her memorial service. Her service will also be on zoom.

Therease Kum Cha Oh Goodridge
Therease Kum Cha Oh Goodridge, 71, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on June 11, 2024. She was born in Seoul, Korea, on July 15, 1952, and was the proprietor of Gifts of Kaua‘i.
Preceded in death by her parents Yu Son Sin and Soon Chul Oh and brother Yong Il Oh.
She is survived by her daughter Sue Oh Goodridge, sisters Hee Cha Oh (Dae Woon Son), Ih Ja Oh, brother Young Seok Oh, grandson Theo Oh Jennings, nephews Jung Eui Son, Jung Woo Son, long time companion Ernest Costa Brum, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Lawa‘i Seventh Day Adventist Church beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Magdalina “Maggie” Mission passed away on May 14, 2024, in ‘Ele‘ele at the age of 87. She was born on Sept. 2, 1936, in Ewa, O‘ahu.
She was preceded in death by husband Richard (Sindy) Mission, Sr., parents Mariano Lahep and Eulalia Melchor Dominguez, brother Floyd Lahep, sisters Lina Agcaoili, Mercy Honorato, Pauline Gonzalez and Irene Carter.
She is survived by sons Jeffrey Mission (Toi) of Hanapepe, Derwin Abalos of Lihu‘e, Richard Missions, Jr. (Meina) of Las Vegas, Nevada, El Abalos, Jr. of Cerritos, California, hanai son Carlos Garcia of Cerritos, California, daughters Betty Carbullido of Moreno Valley, California, Cynthia Sone (Dereck) of Lihu‘e, Theresa DeLair of Waimea, Janean Blouin (Ray) of ‘Ele‘ele, Cindy Igne (Michael) of Kaumakani, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sisters Sally Cabalo of Puhi, Fely Cabotaje of Gardena, California, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Mary Lou Correa, of Kalaheo, passed away on May 17 ,2024, in Lihu‘e at the age of 90. She was born on Oct. 28, 1933, in Koloa. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Thomas Harold Correa, grandson Gavin Ishii, parents Lawrence and Marie Medeiros, brothers Gilbert Medeiros and Ernest Medeiros.
She is survived by son Carl (Brenda) Correa of O‘ahu, daughters Linda (Ronald) Robles of Auburn, Washington, Collette Correa of Kalaheo, grandchildren Shane (Rick) Ishii-Huffer, Michael (Kanani) Correa, Brandon Correa, Asia Yasay, China Yasay, Celina (Ryan) Osgood, Ronald Robles, Jr., Sofia (Leo) Jurado, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Bernice Perreira of Kalaheo, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janis Dorothy Lyon
Janis Dorothy Lyon passed away on Oct. 5, 2023, at the age of 73 in her Kalihiwai home following a brief illness. She was born on March 21, 1950, in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia (WA).
She was preceded in death by parents Henry and Jessie Fisher, and brother Alan Fisher, all of Collie, WA.
She is survived by her husband of forty years, George “Bert” Lyon of Kalihiwai, brother Geoffrey Fisher and sister Robyn Fisher of Perth, WA, four nephews, three nieces, six grandnephews, and two grandnieces.
Janis relocated from Australia to Maui in 1974, before moving to Kaua‘i in 1976.
She worked as an office manager for Jack Lundgren, DDS, from 1979 to 1981, and for Lyon & Jess, CPAs, Inc., from 1983 to 1985.
She was awarded an Associate degree in Accounting from Kauai Community College in 1986.
Janis worked for the administration of Mayor JoAnn Yukimura from 1988 to 1994 as an Information Specialist, Complaints Officer and Public Awareness Coordinator.
She worked for Princeville Ranch Adventures as an Outings Leader from 1999 to 2020, when she retired.
Janis served as a volunteer for Sierra Club (Kaua‘i Group), Friends of Kaua‘i Wildlife Refuges, Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
She was also an active member of the Kilauea Neighborhood Association, Kalihiwai Ridge Community Association and Hawai‘i Ballroom Dancing Association.

Ruby Kawaiulailiahi Pia Cummings, of Anahola, beloved wife, dedicated homemaker, a pillar in her ‘Ohana, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on May 20, 2024. Born on Jan. 23, 1934, in Waimea Valley and raised in Hanama‘ulu, Ruby’s life was marked by love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her ‘Ohana and extended family.
Ruby is preceded in passing by her loving husband of 57 years, Gary Frank Cummings Sr., her parents John Pia and Miriam Taniguchi Pia, her siblings Lily Ki‘ilau, Madeline Raymond, Joseph Pia, George Pia, Arthur Pia and her grandson, Gary Frank Cummings III.
She is survived by her children Frank (Sandy) Cummings, Sharlyn (Philip) Delos Reyes, Lizann (Gerard) Oga, Momi (Alan) Carvalho, Steve (Candice) Cummings, Ed (Michel) Cummings, Randall (Lexi) Cummings, Puanani (Boom) Gomes, Sherri Cummings, as well as her siblings, John Pia Jr. and Hiram (Karen) Pia, along with sisters-in-law Agnes Apo and Charlene Cummings.
Ruby’s legacy extends through her 29 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory through the generations. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 22, at the Cummings Farm in Anahola on Hulu Place. Please follow the designated signage, visitation and services will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. Casual or Aloha attire is requested, lei are welcomed. Lunch to follow after the burial at the Cummings Farm.
