PORT ALLEN — The discovery of a simulated illegal drug laboratory was expanded to develop a variety of scenarios to test the capabilities and ability of first responder teams on Friday during multi-agency exercises that took place around the Port Allen commercial harbor.
PORT ALLEN — The discovery of a simulated illegal drug laboratory was expanded to develop a variety of scenarios to test the capabilities and ability of first responder teams on Friday during multi-agency exercises that took place around the Port Allen commercial harbor.
Hosted statewide by the Hawai‘i National Guard’s 93rd Civil Support Team, the team became involved because the simulated clandestine drug operation was on the Port Allen commercial harbor property, which made it a federal offense.
The full-scale weapons of mass destruction exercise started with an active shooter scenario and later evolved to include a fuel leak, chemical analysis and detoxification, and at one point, even involved a hijack attempt on a tour boat.
These scenarios involved pulling together many different agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, Pacific Missile Range Facility personnel and more.
