KILAUEA — The Department of Parks and Recreation (DOPR) announced that the Neighborhood Center is set to close for construction work.
The county’s contractor, Shioi Construction Inc., along with DOPR will be conducting work, including hurricane shelter hardening of the Kilauea Neighborhood Gym and general repair work including the bathrooms and dugouts.
The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 10. The gym is expected to be closed for an estimated nine months to one year.
“We thank the community for your patience and understanding as we begin these necessary repairs to the Kilauea Neighborhood Center,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Pat Porter. “The closure is a necessary step to ensure the safety and quality of the neighborhood center.”
The park will remain open during the closure of the gym; the park restroom will close once a date is set for painting. Updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
