Dean Remata of Aloha Edibles might not have any right now, but the gears started rolling in his mind.
He’s already anticipating the Kaua‘i Comic Con (this is the fifth year we’re doing this!) that happens on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort with 67 new designs geared for the Comic Con audience. He said he was invited to last year’s event, but couldn’t handle the 10,000 people that went … presale tickets are available online at www.kauaicomicconvention.com, and supposedly, they’ll have tickets at the door as well.
Special guest for this year is Ban Daisuke of Kikaida fame and Sifu Mimi Chan, and a lot more.
Orly Yadao of Orly’s Patisserie was thrilled at the 32nd Taste of Hawai‘i because he got to share a tent with the Big Monster crew … talk about sushi and dessert, together. Hats off to Josie Cortez and Jakki Nelson (tooling around Smith’s Tropical Paradise on a bicycle is a bomb) for putting this huge event, together! MJ Akuna was out to enjoy, and where was the other social media queen?
OK, time to get ready for World Ocean Day … Barbara Gusman and the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort (they are repeat vendors at the Taste of Hawai‘i) are getting ready to host a bunch of travel agents and get them involved in the once-a-month beach cleanup.
Larry Feinstein said Thursday night is the return of Truck Stop Thursday at the Kaua‘i Beer Company with Ola Akau providing live music from 6 to 8 p.m. Kickshaw, one of the original Truck Stop food truck and Da Wonton Shack (do you realize they have strong musical ties, too?) will be parked in front of the KBR from pau hana.
And, don’t forget … this is the first weekend of bon dance … Waimea Higashi Hongwanji on Friday and Saturday evenings.
